By the Light of the Harvest Moon

Hello, and welcome to my very first blog post! With the new year come new intentions, and one of mine is to stay more engaged with everyone. The best way I know how to do that is to share those things which are most meaningful to me.

While my paintings have always had deep emotional significance for me, lately stories and poems have been emerging from them. It tends to happen days after the paintings are finished, and more often than not, when I am wide awake at 2am. I would like to begin sharing them as they arrive.

Here is the first in what I hope will become a series. The story began with a painting of October's Harvest Moon en plein air, and came to fruition under the light of November's Beaver Moon, when, in a moment of solitude, I stepped out into the night.

"By the Light of the Harvest Moon"

As though the student late for rehearsal, tiptoeing into position, the great exposing light turned on. Everything froze.

A subtle audible gasp. Oh, it was me.

No rustling as my feet stopped shuffling across the gravel. One stone kicked, clicked, stopping as quickly as it had started. My head dropped then abruptly sprung back up. My eyes simultaneously flickered trying to adjust to the brilliance.

Speechless, spellbound, caught off guard, found out, I was afraid to move.

I was, after all, late to the performance.

Staring, petrified, forgetting my line,

I continued mute but drank the scene in.

The splendid, the magnificent director commanded defying the midnight black sky. The white orb its yellow rays contradicted and cast a bluish gauze over everything.

The audience uttered not a sound. Cornstalks stood at attention. Not a leaf moved. The theatre-goers remained motionless, hidden in the grass, waiting.

The words, my one and only line. Why don't I know my line? Used, polished, memorized, practiced over and over. What was it?

Several minutes passed then despite the intoxicating beauty I remembered.

Here came my moment. By the light of the Harvest moon I spoke clearly and deliberately, "Thank you Creator".

Thank you for viewing and reading. May the New Year find you well!
